LEWISTON, ID - A long-time Lewiston resident is getting a national award for his endless dedication to making the future brighter through preservation of the past.

John Mock has a passion for history and a hunger to preserve the past.

Mock was vital in the construction of the capitol replica building, energetic to save the Miranda cabin and now said that he's humbled to receive national recognition.

"I am humbled,” said Mock. “It is an award that one doesn't expect to see in their lifetime so it's a wonderful award to receive for all the people in the Valley, and throughout the State of Idaho."

The Award of Merit from the American Association for State and Local History is the highest recognition one can receive for their preservation efforts.

"History is who we are, it represents itself and what we stand for here in the United States and all of the good things that have been provided to us by our ancestors and forefathers and fore-mothers," said Mock.

This award is backed by the History Channel and is going into its 68th year; however John Mock is the only recipient from Idaho who's ever been given the award.
