Idaho’s jobless rate falls while the regions hiring activity for 2014 looks promising
LEWISTON, ID - The Idaho jobless rate fell to 6.1% this November, and the figures locally are even lower.

According to Regional Economist, Kathryn Tacke of the Idaho Department of Labor, the hiring activity looks promising for 2014. However the jobless rates were artificially high this year due to the federal sequestration and layoffs that resulted.

"We saw a huge drop in our region because we are so affected by federal government employment, particularly the forest service," said Tacke. "And we saw the unemployment rate drop from 6.8% in North Central Idaho to 5.8%."

Despite the effects of the federal sequestration, more Idahoans were at work this year, with the highest level of hiring activity since 2007. Unemployment benefits are also on the decline, down by nearly 42% from 2012.
