LEWISTON, ID - Food that was collected for veterans over the weekend was taken to the Idaho State Veterans Home in a convoy.

With a police escort Monday morning, cars lined up to take the stockpile of food and donations that were collected at various participating grocery stores. Members of the LC Valley Veterans Council volunteered their time to help collect the donations for the food drive that occurs annually.

Idaho State Veterans Home administrator Sarah Yoder said it's always amazing to see how much the community comes together to give back.

"Really brings a lot of food into the Veterans home that enables us to do special meals throughout the year," said Yoder. "The veterans are really humbled by the community and all their participation."

Yoder said they collected $4,100 in donations and seven truckloads of food this year.
