LEWISTON, ID - The Idaho Primary Election is just around the corner and this years ballot is filled with several contested races in Nez Perce County.

Military and absentee ballots have been sent out to residents for the Nez Perce County Primary Election. County Clerk Patty Weeks encourages everyone to cast their ballot.

"This is their opportunity to put the best candidate forward for the General Election," said Weeks. "And in some parts of the state there aren't two parties so one party, whoever is decided in the primary ends up being elected. So it's really important for people to pay attention to these local races and participate."

If you're looking to beat the rush on Election Day, you can vote in the courthouse right now. Otherwise elections will be held on May 20th. Weeks said one of the major differences on this years ballot is the contested race for district judge
