LEWISTON, ID - A new law that allows more large trucks on Idaho's highways will be under review by the Idaho Transportation Department.

The ITD is creating a panel to review a new law which will allow bigger shipments to use Idaho roads. Timber companies argued their need to make bigger shipments along Idaho's roadways, saying it will help their industries compete.

"They're having to compete with international companies and their margins are so tight, they need to be able to haul more with one truck, with one driver," said IDT Operations Manager Doral Hoff.

The Idaho Transportation Department will plan, implement and develop rules for trucks weighing between approximately 100,000 to 130,000 pounds. Challengers fear allowing larger trucks on U.S. Highway 95 will make roadways unsafe.
