LEWISTON, ID - The United States Postal Service is delivering more packages this year than in 2012, and the uptick may be contributing to more mail theft.

Jade Nevitt of the Lewiston post office said they've even hired more staff locally to accommodate the delivery demand.

More people are online shopping this year and using in-store shipping options, but the convenience doesn't end well for those who get their items stolen.

"Pick their mail up regularly, make sure that everything is picked up off their porches on time,” said Nevitt. “They can also notify us, if they are going away for a few days, that we need to hold their mail."

Another good tip from Nevitt, communicate with your mail carrier and set up a drop box on your porch. This way passerby's can't see the packages left on your doorstep.
