Two suspects were transporting 12 grams of black tar heroin.
LEWISTON, ID - Two people are facing serious charges after what was initially a stop for a traffic violation Thursday evening.

After pulling the car over, police learned the driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old Jesse Smith, had several outstanding warrants, and Officer Reese with the help of K-9 Marta discovered drug paraphernalia and black tar heroin.

Approximately 12 grams of black tar heroin," said LPD K-9 Handler, Chris Reese. "It's a substantial amount especially here in the valley. Of all of the controlled substance laws heroin carries the most significant consequences or penalties for that. Anything over two grams of heroin in the state of Idaho is considered trafficking."

Smith and his passenger, 24-year-old Jaclyn Marberg were charged with trafficking heroin and booked into the Nez Perce County Jail.
