Construction begins for Franklin Elementary School expansion

Construction begins for Franklin Elementary School expansion
PULLMAN, WA - Franklin Elementary in Pullman is looking forward to adding six new classrooms to the school.

They held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday afternoon to celebrate. Many of the students wore hard hats and a few of them even grabbed a shovel to help kick off the construction. Franklin Elementary School Principal, Bill Holman said they'll be ready to take in more students by fall of 2014.

"It's very exciting, actually," said Holman. "The change is a lot of fun. It's going to be very interesting bringing 50 to 75 new students to our school next year. Possibly new staff members, that kind of thing."

Pullman voters passed a $53.5 million bond last spring that will fund this expansion project, and the remodeling of Pullman High School. Holman said the expansion project is necessary to accommodate Pullman's growing population.
