LEWISTON, ID - Traffic is picking up downtown as the second week of construction continues on Fifth and Main Streets.

Crews continue to tear the streets apart as part of Beautiful Downtown Lewiston and the Urban Renewal Agency's plan to beautify and maintain downtown corridors.

Executive Director of Beautiful Downtown Lewiston Breanne Durham said the city is working with construction crews and engineers to make sure at least one lane remains open for businesses on Main and D Streets.

"Any sort of construction can be hard on businesses, but this has been a long time coming and the engineer team has had lots of opportunities for them to be involved along the way," said Durham.

The urban renewal agency expects to have the project complete by early 2013. The project will replace century-old water, sewer and stormwater lines and will include bicycle lanes and wider sidewalks.
