Doctor Joyce Majure receives prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award
LEWISTON, ID - A local doctor received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her groundbreaking work and contributions to women in surgery and women's health.

St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Doctor, Joyce Majure received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Nina Starr Braunwald Award. When Doctor Majure started out in the medical field, women surgeons weren't common. However through mentorship, leadership and advocacy, Doctor Majure helped change that. The now retired doctor tells KLEW News how humbled she is to receive this award.

"It still gets me a little emotional, cause there's a lot of years in this whole thing, a lot of hard work," said Majure. "Residency was really grinding and tough, really macho at the time going through. And when I wrote the pocket mentor it was really cathartic for me. So getting this award was like incredible. Just nice achievement to know like it was appreciated."

The pocket mentor that she wrote in 1993 continues to be distributed to nearly all future surgeons throughout the country. Majure has practiced in the local community for 27-years, and currently serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer at St. Joseph's.
