LEWISTON, ID - Tuesday marked day five for the 2012 Toyota Weaver Seed World Jet Boat Marathon Championship, which came to a startling end for one team.

driver Mark Cromie and navigator Richard Maunder of New Zealand were lucky to walk away from Tuesday's jet boat accident. The two were racing up the Snake River when they hit a wave and twisted upward at a 45 degree angle crashing down into another wave.

Cromie and Maunder were sitting six minutes ahead of all other contenders. Unfortunately, the accident destroyed their boat forcing them to withdraw from the race. The team will still place and travel to the rest of the races. However, they will be at the bottom of the standings.

Due to a handful of mechanical issues, event coordinators canceled Tuesday afternoons portion of the races and they will not be made up. Teams will head to Orofino tomorrow to race on the Clearwater River.
