Deputy behind bars for alleged relationship with underage girl

IDAHO COUNTY, ID - An Idaho County deputy is currently being held in the Lewis County Jail awaiting his preliminary hearing due to an alleged inappropriate relationship with an underage girl.

According to court documents, 31-year-old Daniel Funderburg of Kamiah was arrested on December 5th and arraigned on the 6th for the felony charge of sexual battery-committed by lewd or lascivious acts on a minor child 16 to 17 years of age.

According to court documents, Funderburg told investigators he had sex with the underage girl in his house.

He also told investigators that he had notified Undersheriff Jim Georges about the relationship with the girl about a month ago and that the undersheriff had contacted the girl's mother.

Funderburg told the investigators that the girl's mother told Georges she would not pursue charges as long as the relationship was over and he got counseling.

The court documents also included information that the underage girl contracted chlamydia from Funderburg as a result of their multiple sexual encounters.

KLEW contacted the Idaho County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Doug Giddings informed us that Funderburg's claim that Undersheriff Georges knew about the relationship as early as a month ago is "absolutely not true." Giddings said that as soon as he learned of the issue, Funderburg was immediately placed on administrative leave as of Monday December 3rd.
