Hosts of Super Bowl party may be held liable for guests overindulging
CLARKSTON, WA - A lot of people are revved up for Super Bowl Sunday but local troopers said it's one of the most heightened days for DUI arrests.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 36% of all traffic fatalities on Super Bowl Sunday were a result of drunk drivers.

Washington State Patrol Trooper, Chris Thorson said those on patrol are going to keep a watchful eye out for drivers as soon as the big game ends.

"The troopers are aware that there is a big Super Bowl game this weekend that's involving a team from Washington," said Thorson. "So there will be more drivers on the road with a high probability of people drinking and driving. So those troopers will be focusing their efforts on DUI detection at that time."

If you're the host of a party this weekend, here are a few tips to keep in mind from the Northwest Insurance Council to avoid being held liable in the event of an accident. Be sure to provide plenty of non-alcoholic beverages and food for your guests, stop serving liquor an hour before the game is over, and be sure to provide coffee, tea and soft drinks in it's place. And above all, never over-serve a guest.
