Keynote speaker of reality series, “Face Off” inspires students at ceremony.
MOSCOW, ID - The University of Idaho welcomed its new students with a lively Convocation Ceremony Friday morning.

Interim President Don Burnett said there are about 3,000 new Vandals this year, bringing the student body to roughly 13,000. The keynote speaker was 2011 U of I graduate Rayce Bird, who won of the second season of the Sy-fy Channel's reality series, "Face Off."

"The University of Idaho is not here to make drones, or machines, or robots," said Bird. "It's not here to put labels on you, or stamp you with some kind of category. Instead, it wants to inspire you and help you find your world."

The ceremony concluded with a performance by the Vandal Marching Band. The band pumped up the crowd by getting the freshmen and their parents to join them in singing the fight song.
