CLARKSTON, WA - The Clarkston City Council approved a 1% property tax increase on Monday to generate more revenue for their general fund.

Clerk Vickie Story estimates a $3.28 in property taxes for a home valued at $150,000. The money is going to be split into the current expense fund and street fund and is in effect January 1st. Councilor Terry Beadles said there aren't a lot of avenues that bring money into the general fund that they can increase this year.

"This will by no means get us to the figure that we need, but it will help get us in the right direction," said Beadles.

The council estimates the increase will generate $8,680 for the 2013 budget. They're limited by state law to increase the tax by 1% a year.
