CLARKSTON, WA - Fire Chief Steve Cooper approached the Clarkston City Council Monday night in order to gain approval to bid on a used ambulance.

Cooper said the ambulance, which would be the fourth addition to the fleet, is 13-years old and has less than 50,000 miles on it. He contends that adding another ambulance is important for his team from a planning aspect.

"The purpose of bidding on another ambulance is to have another ambulance readily available to replace any vehicle that is removed from service for maintenance," said Clarkston Fire Chief Steve Cooper.

The money for the bid would come from the ambulance replacement fund which Cooper said has accumulated sufficient funds. The minimum bid stands at $5,000, so Cooper asked the council for permission to bid up to $7,500.

After much discussion the council decided to authorize no limit to the bid Cooper may place.

In other Fire Department related business, the council approved a plan to move forward with a bid for new fire hydrants, even though the actual cost came in at $15,000 higher then the engineer's original estimate.
