LEWISTON, ID - Both the U.S. Forest Service and The Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protection Association are appealing a citation to reach a settlement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The citation was issued by OSHA after the 2012 death of a U.S. Forest Service Firefighter. Anne Veseth, 20, of Moscow was killed at the Steep Corner Fire by falling trees which OSHA said was an unsafe environment for firefighters to be working. Regional Director of Public Affairs Deanne Amaden of the U.S. Department of Labor said the three entities are working together to reach a settlement.
"Everyone is in agreement that ultimate goal here is to make sure that our firefighters and all workers are working in the safest ways possible going forward," said Amaden.
OSHA proposed a fine of $14,000 in their citation they issued last month.
