First UI Presidential Candidate is interviewed by staff and community

First UI Presidential Candidate is interviewed by staff and community
MOSCOW, ID - The first of five candidates in the running to become the University of Idaho's next president visited Moscow Tuesday.

Doctor Donald Birx is currently a chancellor and professor at Penn State, and he's held administrative positions at the University of Houston and New Mexico State University. Birx said he believes the U-of-I has a lot of potential to grow as a land grant university... and to improve its athletic programs.

"I think UI's in a rebuilding phase," said Birx. "In some ways athletically, but also academically, to where it wants to go in the future. And I think winning's not everything, but whatever you do, you ought to have a reputation for doing it well."

Birx said strengthening the athletic programs would benefit the school academically and improve its image. Birx took questions from people associated with the university Tuesday morning, and from community members Tuesday afternoon.

Idaho State Board of Education officials said they'll consider the public's comments before choosing a president in November. KLEW News will introduce you to the second presidential candidate next Tuesday.
