A burn permit is required by law from May 10 to October 20.
LEWISTON, ID - The hot dry months of summer are still a ways off, however a burn ban is ready to be put in place.

Idaho burn permits will be required for any person living outside the city limits. Idaho Department of Lands Information Officer Mary Fritz said even though it's green outside the threat of fire remains.

"The temperatures increase, the fuels get drier and the opportunity exist for fires to get out of control and it's very important that we give people guidance on how to burn safely," said Fritz.

This closed fire season does apply to farmers and growers planning to burn fields, however it does not apply for recreational campfires. If you get caught burning without a permit you could be issued a misdemeanor citation.
