LEWISTON, ID - Cleaner air in our region means the lifting of burn bans, at least for a little while.

The season for open burning is coming to a close, but not for a couple of weeks. And just in time, the Washington State Department of Ecology said it's safe to burn in our region again. Stagnant air crippled the region which encompassed Nez Perce and Asotin County for nearly a week.

"DOE issued a stage-one burn ban last Thursday and from what I see on the website this morning, everything's been lifted," said Asotin County Fire Marshall, Karst Riggers. "It hasn't been extended."

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality also deems the area to have a good air quality index. The Fall open burn season officially ends on December 15th.
