East and west bound traffic came to a standstill as Bryden Canyon Road virtually shut down just before 2 p.m.
According to the Lewiston Police Department, the driver of a Ford Expedition attempted a U-turn and failed to yield to oncoming traffic. The Expedition collided with a GMC Suburban.
Lewiston Police Sergeant Ted Piche said everybody appeared to be buckled up which played a huge role in their safety. No one was seriously injured, however, a six-year-old and the driver of the Expedition were transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Officials said the Expedition driver feared their vehicle was running out of gas, made a sharp turn to coast down the canyon, and was T-boned by the oncoming Suburban.
