MOSCOW, ID - The Moscow Volunteer Fire Department and Mayor Bill Lambert have announced that Brian Nickerson of Los Alamos, New Mexico will be the new fire chief.

Nickerson has over 25-years of experience, including give years as chief of a volunteer fire department in Wright City, Missouri. Currently he is the Fire Marshal for Los Alamos County in New Mexico.

Nickerson was chosen from a pool of 40 candidates, and it was his experience with and understanding of volunteer firefighters that set him apart from the rest.

"His experience with volunteers is such that he has a good report with them," said Moscow City Supervisor, Gary Riedner. "He knows that volunteers are in it because they really love the work. They wanna give back to their communities and he has some ideas on how to capitalize on that."

Nickerson's appointment will be confirmed at Monday's City Council meeting. He's expected to start in his new position August 25th.
