Suspect pled not guilty at arraignment in connection of Stapert death
COLFAX, WA - As the Whitman County Sheriff's Office continues the investigation into the death of 17-year-old Donavin Stapert, one of the suspects arrested in relation to his death was arraigned in a Whitman County court Thursday morning.

The Sheriff's office arrested three people in relation to what they call a "controlled substance homicide." Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers said that Spokane County Major Crimes has found a body in the Chattaroy area north of Spokane.

"We don't have a positive confirmation of that at this point, there's an autopsy that's going on right now, and we hope to be able to determine the identity of that body within the next 24 to 48 hours," said Myers.

In the Whitman County Courthouse, 38-year-old Chastity Barkhuff of Malden pled not guilty to the charges of Controlled Substance Homicide, Providing a Controlled Substance to a minor, and Unlawful Disposal of Human Remains. Barkhuff's defense attorney requested that her bail be reduced from $250,000 to $50,000, however that request was denied. Thirty-year-old James Ramson of Spokane will be arraigned Friday morning.
