MOSCOW, ID - A Washington State University professor who pleaded guilty to felony injury to a child has been released from custody on probation.

On Monday, Latah County Second District Judge John Stegner suspended the sentence for 52-year-old Andrew Appleton of Moscow.

He pleaded guilty to felony injury to a child as part of a plea agreement last year, but he was originally arrested on a felony rape charge in September 2012. Appleton spent the last six months in a prison treatment program. He'll now be on probation for three years.

Appleton was a WSU Associate Professor in The School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs at the time of his arrest.
