Call the confidential 24-hour hotline if you’re being stalked.
MOSCOW, ID - January is National Stalking Awareness Month and a local organization is working to help those affected.

Alternatives to Violence on the Palouse is educating people about the crime, while offering services to stalking victims.

President Barack Obama recently signed a proclamation recognizing stalking as a serious crime that affects one-in-six American Women. ATVP Assistant Director, Emilie McLarnan said technology and social media continue to make stalking easier.

"It's the stalker's best friend," said McLarnan. "And you don't have to be really super tech-savvy to be a proficient stalker. You know if you can use Facebook, or you know how to use email, it's not that hard."

ATVP has trained local law enforcement officers and prosecutors about the ways stalkers use technology against their victims. They also have a confidential 24-hour hotline that anyone can call if they're dealing with a stalker. That hotline number is 1-877-334-2887.
