Sustain Life! Festival comes to fairgrounds
Some of what you will find at the Sustain Life! Festival. By Tracci DialLEWISTON - Community Action Partnership and the Ploughshare Institute for Sustainable Culture are teaming up to bring the LC Valley a new kind of event Saturday. It's from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. at the Nez Perce County Fairgrounds and billed as the Sustain Life! Festival. Abraham Adams, who is on the Board of Directors of the institute, will be on hand to explain the concept. "We see sustainable culture as that harmonious intersection; economic, social and environmental sustainability," said Adams. "When those three things come together we say that's the spot we want to be in. That's sustainable culture." The festival features craftspeople making everything from tools to soap. Demonstrations will be taking place. One man will be demonstrating his ability to turn a log into a chair in under an hour. There will also be hands-on stations to make your own goods, as well as wagon rides and live music. Dave Knittel of Community Action Partnership helped organize the event. He said he thinks the festival is something everyone can benefit from. "I believe it's going to make an impact in the Valley," said Knittel. "Right now with the economy, our culture is ripe for this kind of education. I think that as we are struggling with economic recovery. This is something that really should appeal to the people."
