COLFAX - Richard Pasma, the key person of interest in the Kristin Grindley case, delayed entering a plea in Whitman County Superior Court Friday afternoon.

24-year-old Pasma made his initial court appearance last Friday. He's charged with one count of Hit and Run Injury Accident, a class C felony.

Pasma will be back in court August 20th.

Whitman County Prosecutor Denis Tracy will meet with Pasma and his attorney to further clarify the charge in the case before the next appearance.

The maximum penalty for a conviction is five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Pasma's accused of operating a vehicle which was involved in an accident on November 11th of last year. Pasma's girlfriend at the time, Kristin Grindley, was seriously injured. Court documents said Pasma failed to stop his vehicle at the scene or render Grindley reasonable assistance.

She was found in a pool of blood on the Pullman-Albion Road, with what appeared to be life threatening injuries.

The state is seeking a sentence for Pasma above the standard range due to Grindley's extensive injuries.
