Action News told you last Friday LCSC President Dene Thomas accepted a job offer at Fort Lewis in Colorado. Monday morning Thomas told us she's excited for the change.
"There are a lot of parallels with Lewis-Clark State college and just enough differences to make it a new challenge," said Thomas.
Thomas said the liberal arts school with a 20 percent Native American student population sought her out during their presidential search. She said she wasn't seeking new employment. Thomas will finish the fiscal year. She'll start her new position on July 1st as Fort Lewis's first woman president in it's 99 year history; something she's done before, being the first woman president at Lewis-Clark state.
"I just am who I am, but I do believe in strong woman administration, "said Thomas. "I have worked very hard to encourage other women to go into administration."
Thomas said she's confident the college will continue to succeed without her in the President's Office. And don't think she'll be a stranger to Lewiston.
"We (my husband and I) do plan to come back and we may even retire back here," said Thomas. "Those plans are up in the air right now. I love Lewiston and I want to come back fairly often to see all my friends and see how the college is doing. It will being doing well. It will do well without me. The people here are committed to doing what they do and I'm very proud of them. They'll keep this place strong and healthy."
