CLARKSTON - It will be more than just a garden. It will be a place to socialize.

That's what organizer Dan Cease says about the new Clarkston Community Garden.

"As you can see we are putting together the first of many boxes. Hopefully one of these days you will see a hundred of them out here and lots of citizens working their gardens," said Cease.

The City of Clarkston is allowing the garden to be planted on a piece of land at the end of 13th Street near the waste water treatment plant.

"We're operating strictly by donations from individuals and it's really exciting," said Cease. "Not only are people starting to donate, but they want to have their own garden plot here as well. So any money we are collecting right now is going to buy the timber which we desperately need and for the soil."

The garden will feature raised beds, with some of the food being donated to the Asotin County Food Bank. But before they can get everything up and running, they need volunteers.

"We have a work party on the 27th," said Cease. "People can come down and just watch if they want."
