LEWISTON - It happens to boys and it happens to men too.

Tuesday a workshop was held at the YWCA to raise awareness about the sexual assault of males.

"One in six men will be sexually abused as a child," said presenter Bryan Lyda. "That's reality. But if I am talking to a group of men I usually don't assume that. One in 33 men will be sexually assaulted or raped as an adult, so that's a pretty high number. But also from today, we probably know that's low."

The workshop focused on helping people who work as advocates and in other positions to better support male survivors and their families.

Lyda discussed some of the differences between female and male victims as well as some of the social norms that make male recovery more difficult.
