The deadline for declaration of candidacy for federal, state, county, port and judicial offices in Idaho is March 19.
Along with the state senate and representative positions, in Nez Perce County, two commission seats, treasurer, coroner, court clerk and assessor are open. Nez Perce County Auditor Patty Weeks said all the incumbents are running for re-election. She said a few others have filed as well and they could see more this week.
"It just depends. Some years we'll have a lot of people in the second week, other years all the filings have taken place in the first week," said Weeks. "It's hard to tell what will happen."
In Idaho you must be a resident of the county for at least a year and 18-years-old to run for office.
Weeks said along with some new names on the ballots another big difference will be how citizens vote.
"This will be the first time we have a county-wide optical scan ballot, which simply is fill in the oval instead of the punch card," said Weeks. "Along with that we will have to have two ballots that are handed out to the voter. There was a coin toss and the Democrats won and so their ballot is supposed to be on top of the Republicans’ ballot. People will receive those two ballots, but are only to vote on one. The other will go into the un-voted ballot box."
The primary election will be held on May 25.
