Two single mothers, Brandy Bivens and Sorena Hall, are the newest Habitat Partner families. After two years of donating 500 sweat equity hours - they've now broken ground on their own homes.
"We are almost done with that," said Bivens "We have about forty hours left but we've had two years in the making of putting in the hours building other people's homes and doing cleanup and working at the Habitat Store. We're pretty excited to get this going."
The two new homes will be on 29th Street in Lewiston. LC Partners Executive Director Rich Goodwin says it's turning into a Habitat neighborhood.
"We'll begin in about two weeks and this is kind of a unique situation because the housing development we're in here will eventually have eight Habitat homes," said Goodwin. "Across the street is the old Garfield School and that's where our very first and second houses that Habitat built back in the early nineties are. So, we've actually come back home."
The families have to come up with a down payment for the homes and also make monthly mortgage payments. Habitat for Humanity finances the home and the families pay them back over twenty years.
Sorena Hall says it isn't hard to partner with the Habitat crew.
"The guys are great to work with, they're fun. It's been a very good experience."
