LEWISTON - There is some good news for the unemployed. Federal unemployment benefits and the $25 week supplement have been extended for laid-off job seekers.

"We anticipated everything was going to end, but they have extended it for another month," said local Idaho Job Service Supervisor of Unemployment Insurance Jennifer Dickeson. "They didn't add any new money, but what they did was just extended the time that you can apply for the extension. What it does is it keeps money coming in to the Lewiston economy or into the Valley. We want the people to have the money to spend in the local businesses. So it will help the spending power of the people who are getting benefits."

Dickeson said over the last few years they seem to always be busy, but recently the phone has been ringing off the hook.

"We got a lot of phone calls about 'what am I going to do?'. We knew something might happen, we kind of had an idea that they maybe doing something so we just kept telling them to hold tight and check back with us," said Dickerson.
