Sheriff's Office wants neighbors to stand watch

ASOTIN – The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office is exploring some new intiatives, by promoting the formation of Neighborhood Watches and doing some social networking.
“We are re-invigorating the Neighborhood Watch program,” said Capt. Dan Hally. “Anyone that is interested in forming their own neighborhood watch, we encourage them to contact the sheriff's office. The undersheriff Scott Kopess will be managing that program and we see it as an opportunity for folks to get involved and to meet their neighbors and kind of share in the responsibility to make the neighborhoods as safe as we can make them.” Captain Dan Hally says knowing your neighbors better and having more eyes on the lookout for suspicious activity can help prevent crime. “If you are going to be gone on vacation what a great way to have more eyes than just law enforcement looking after your property. It's a great social network, and it's an opportunity for everyone within the neighborhood area to participate and ensure their neighbors are safe and get back into that community mind et that we are all here and we are all working together.” The sheriff's office is also going high tech to better communicate with the public. “We are trying to involve the general public more in the preventative side of law enforcement, we've developed a Facebook page and encourage folks to take a look at it cause we will post information about public events we have going on, trainings or if we are looking for somebody, just information pieces.” If you are interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch program you can contact the sheriff's office. |
