Boat parade returns to the Snake

LEWISTON - For years, the Valley hosted a holiday lighted boat parade. Since 2000, there hasn't been a boat parade, but now the Hells Canyon Boat Club is bringing it back.
"For many years we had these parades in December, like a week before Christmas," said organizer Mike Browne. "We got to the point where it was really bad weather at that time of year and a lot of people didn't participate because of that." This year the parade will be on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. "Being this time of year, two days after Thanksgiving, that's when all the promotions are starting for the holidays anyhow, so it should be good weather for people to enjoy it," said Browne. So far they have about 20 boats signed up, but they want 50. To get people involved Browne said they will help people get battery power for their decorations and is even offering space to decorate. For the non-boat owners, Browne is hoping a lot of people will come out along the river to watch the show. "We will go up past Swallows Nest, up past Hells Gate on the Clarkston side and we will turn and come back on the other side and back up to the part where we started," said Browne. Browne said the whole idea is to get people involved with a fun and free community event. "We'd like that rather than people run off to Spokane or someplace to do their thing, come down and watch us, enjoy it," said Browne. The Lighted Boat Parade is November 28 at 4:30 starting at the Southway Bridge. It's free to sign up and you can fill out your entry form at Valley Boat and Motor or Riverview Marina. |
