LEWISTON – Honor Flights sends World War II vets to visit their war memorial in Washington D.C.

And Jenifer Junior High has gotten in on the action.

"With the Honor Flight Foundation, every $500 dollars that you raise sends a WWII veteran to see their memorial and proudly, unofficially, we are at around $2,000, so we will be sending four veterans to see the memorial which is pretty awesome," said Jenifer Social Studies Teacher Scott Gratz.

And on Friday, Whitman Elementary dropped off a check for $140 to help with the cause.

"It just seems like a good thing to do, since many of the vets can't pay for this trip to Washington D.C. on their own," said one Whitman Elementary named Sam.

"We're just happy to donate money for the veterans because I think it's really important for them to go to see the monument in Washington D.C.," said another Whitman Elementary sixth grader named Hailey.

McSorley also gave a check for $210 dollars Friday.

Gratz said they hope to do this fundraiser again next year and expand it throughout the district.
