LEWISTON – A boat involved in a deadly crash on the Snake River early Wednesday morning will be pulled out of the water Monday.

First responders say 77-year-old Harold Miller was unconscious and trapped when the boat sunk after crashing into an Interstate Bridge pillar at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. His body was recovered by marine deputies several hours after the accident.

The Lewiston Chamber of Commerce confirmed Thursday that Miller was listed as a participant in the Snake-Clearwater Steelhead Derby. Chamber officials said this is the first such accident in the Derby's history.

The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office is investigating what may have led to the crash. Kellogg resident Len Young was also on the boat, but was able to swim to safety. He was treated at St. Joe’s and released.

Nez Perce County Chief Deputy Alan Johnson said the sheriff's office will be working with Riverview Marina to pull the boat out of the river.
