LEWISTON - What were few spaces to park became fewer at times during construction, but now Warriors should not be worried about finding a spot close to campus anymore.

Phase 2 of the college's parking project is, as of Tuesday finished, and ahead of schedule.

"The completion date was supposed to be right before Thanksgiving," said Physical Plant Director Matt Graves. "So we're opening it quite a bit early."

The completion means street parking and lots on 4th Street all the way from 7th to 11th Avenue just west of the college. The $1.1 million project added about 230 parking spots.

"This entire parking, other than about one block of it, has been closed to student parking for most of the first term of school this year, so it's been a real inconvenience. So I feel really good, like we've accomplished a lot in a short period of time," said Graves.

The project didn't come without a bit of controversy, as college officials had to tear down trees and homes to make it possible.

Graves said the opening of the parking spaces, which officially happened Tuesday, will be a major improvement for the college.

"The only thing we've got left to do is landscaping, which will probably be finished in the spring," said Graves. "We want to do a fence along the alley, but primarily it's a completed project."
