PULLMAN - Whitman Co. Sheriff's deputies are trying to determine exactly how a recent WSU grad found unconscious in the middle of a road early Wednesday was injured.

The Sheriff's Office said deputies were called about 1:40 a.m. when 23-year-old Kristen E. Grindley was found in a pool of blood on Albion Road about one mile from the intersection with State Route 27.

Investigators believe she either fell from a vehicle or was hit by a vehicle that drove off.

Grindley was rushed to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where she was listed in critical condition.

Grindley's family lives in Woodinville.
