Chaney, Scott talk about wins in Moscow
Sue Scott talks about winning a seat on the Moscow City Council. By Matt Loveless
MOSCOW - Moscow's mayor said she's pleased and surprised by a close win in the the city's mayoral race.
Nancy Chaney, who was first elected in 2005, keeps her seat by less than a percentage point, defeating city councilor John Weber by 40 votes. Chaney said she boarded a flight for a job convention in Chicago just hours after learning of her victory, but over the phone Thursday said she's honored to continue to serve and is looking forward to working with the new council. Chaney said she was a little disappointed at voter turnout, but said she hopes that means people think there's more good going on than bad. She also said people must be optimistic about developments in the city and it's comprehensive plan. John Weber could not be reached for comment Thursday. As for who Chaney will be sitting at the table with: incumbent Walter Steed earned re-election in a close race. He will be joined by Tim Brown, and local business owner Sue Scott. Scott garnered the highest percentage of votes in the election. "I'm still a little numb," said Scott. "I keep having dreams I'm supposed to be at a debate or parade somewhere, and it really is over. So, that's good. I'm really thrilled, and so thankful for all the people that supported me." Brown complimented all of his opponents, saying there would not have been a bad choice in the election. Brown said he's eager to go to work for the city. Scott echoed Brown, saying she hopes what she calls a "congenial" election will turn into a cooperative council. "I think we all have got pretty well bored listening to all the platforms," said Scott. "We all want economic growth, we all want a place for more industrial, so we're all pretty much on the same page." |
