LEWISTON - Members of the Lewis Clark Special Olympics team are gearing up for the trip of a lifetime.
Coach Robin Crowe, along with athletes Shawn Wood and Ethan Crowe, leave Wednesday to play soccer in China. "I've never been out of the country, so it is just going to be very exciting, whirlwind kind of situation," said Crowe. "We will be there for seven days and we will be in Shanghai, where I hear they have 19 million people. So the shock of going from Lewiston, Idaho to Shanghai is going to be incredible." The group will join up with other Special Olympics soccer players from Idaho to play against teams from around the world. Crowe said the group is always looking for volunteers to help out, as well as players. "The soccer is called Unified Soccer so it involves both individuals with disabilities as well as people without disabilities," said Crowe. "So anybody who used to play in high school and would like to play some soccer again or floor hockey, basketball or softball, we have sports all year around." The group will leave for China Wednesday at 4:10 p.m. from the Lewiston Airport and welcomes the public coming out to support them. If you would like more information, go to www.IDSO.org |
