LEWISTON - Community Action Partnership is gearing up to help those in need survive the long cold winter.

Friday CAP employees and volunteers were trained about a new program that provides energy payment assistance.

"We are running a new program for energy assistance in the10 northern counties in Idaho and it means that we are going to be able to help, in central Idaho, roughly 5,000 homes, and we are going to be able to help year-round, which helps our clients and staff so that we are not in emergency status always, that we can go ahead and help them throughout the year," said Program Coordinator Kim Briscoe.

Phone lines will open up on Monday to start scheduling appointments, if you need assistance.

Over three months, a single person would have to make under $1,575 per month to qualify. For a family of four it's under $2,544 per month.

CAP is also signing people up for their weatherization program.

"Our Weatherization program, we really need people to come in and sign up for, because of the Obama stimulus package, it's helping us help a lot of homes get weatherized," said Briscoe. "We feel that this is their first step into the agency to get into all of our other programs."
