CLARKSTON - Voters had the chance to learn more about candidates Tuesday night as the L-C League of Women Voters and the Clarkston Chamber of Commerce hosted a forum.

City of Clarkston candidates as well District 9 State Representative candidates Pat Hailey and Susan Fagen, were given three minutes to introduce themselves and explain why they should be supported.

Hailey and Fagen both stressed their farming roots and commitment to agriculture.

Clarkston City Council Candidate Monika Lawrence talked about irresponsible spending by the Council.

"I think the city council is on a spending spree," said Lawrence. "What do you think? If I-1033 passes, hardly any of that Walmart money will be coming to the City of Clarkston."

Lawrence is running against Incumbent Larry Baumberger who said he wants to “finish projects in progress.”

There are several measures on the ballot, including continuation of public transit funding, creation of a cemetery district and EMS levees in Clarkston, Asotin and the Asotin County.

"Asotin County is asking for 50 cents per thousand and that's actually gone down about 3 cents per thousand over the previous year and how often can you say your taxes are going down and they really are, " said Asotin County Fire Chief Noel Hardin. "What they're asking for is a continuation of EMS services in Asotin County."
