LEWISTON - The long-term goal of a Lapwai bike path is getting more county support.

Nez Perce County Commission Chairman Doug Zenner said the project began several years ago with a $500,000 grant and $50,000 of county funds.

Since, the original project has inherited a side project, and the county is now in for about $180,000 of a total $850,000 project, as part of what commissioners said is a long-term transportation plan.

Zenner says the Nez Perce Tribe committed $142,000, a cost matched by the city, to out in a sewer line along the Spaulding Bridge.

Zenner said the hope is that future commissions will carry on the project, with the goal of running a bike and pedestrian path to Webb Road to the south and across the Spaulding Bridge to Lapwai.
