According to fire officials, Initial attack firefighters arrived at the fire Wednesday and worked into the night and were reinforced Thursday with additional crews and the arrival of a Type 3 Incident Command Team.
A helitanker continues to be effective in dipping water from the Snake River onto the fire while crews assist by building fireline. The steep terrain, limited road or trail access, and patchwork of timber and grassland are challenging firefighting efforts. The fire is approximately 100 acres in size.
Portions of Forest Service trails that access Cow Creek and Mormon Flat are adjacent to or within the fire area. While the area remains open to public use, trail users are cautioned that a fire is burning in the area. Depending on fire behavior, area trails may be closed in the near future.
At this time, the fire poses no threat to structures or private land.
Resources now working on the fire consist of 4 crews, 3 helicopters, and the management team, for a total of 109 personnel.
