COEUR D'ALENE (AP) — Kootenai County Sheriff's Capt. Ben Wolfinger says a man who is presumed drowned in Lake Coeur d'Alene reportedly jumped from the boat Monday and refused assistance.

Officers continue to investigate the death of 49-year-old Robert J. Meadows of Post Falls.

Wolfinger says Meadows and 31-year-old Michael J. Kidd, also of Post Falls, were en route from the Carlin Bay Resort to Coeur d'Alene on Kidd's boat Monday evening.

Kidd told investigators that Meadows jumped out of the boat. He says he threw two lifejackets to Meadows and then dove in to help him, but Meadows pushed him away. Meadows then went below the surface and was not seen again.

Divers and marine deputies searched the area, where the water is 125 feet to 140 feet deep. Recovery efforts, using side scan sonar, were expected to continue Tuesday and Wednesday.
