ASOTIN - You may not like them, but you can't go around shooting them.

On Monday Superior Court Judge William Acey sentenced a 26-year-old Asotin County man for killing a neighbor's cat with a high powered pellet gun.

Jeremy Scheuerman pleaded guilty to one count of 2nd degree animal cruelty. His defense attorney, Tom Ledgerwood, said Sherman had been having a problem with multiple cats on his property and did not know the cat belonged to a neighbor.

"Most vets will lend you a live trap if you're having problems," said Acey. "You can set the trap up, humanely catch them and take them to the animal shelter.

Scheuerman spent three days in jail and was sentenced to 87 days suspended, plus court fees and restitution yet to be determined.
