Trash is treasure for sick kids

CLARKSTON - Your trash could become a sick child's treasure.

Clarkston's Sarah Marek is pounding the pavement collecting pop tabs for a good cause.

"It's for a team project I am doing for a class at WSU," Marek said, while collecting tabs in Clarkston Thursday. "They use the pop tabs from beverages and other canned goods and they recycle them and it pays for temporary lodging for families with sick children."

Marek has collected 3 or 4 pounds so far, but is hoping for a lot more.

"One pound of tabs pays for one night's stay and our goal is 20 pounds, so that would be 20 nights," said Marek.

Marek wants you to save up your pop tabs and take them to the Clarkston Chamber of Commerce or drop them off at KLEW-TV by July 19.

The deadline is July 19. All the tabs will be used to support Ronald McDonald House Charities.
