CLARKSTON - Years of work are now on display at the Port of Clarkston.

Ken Carter spent those years measuring and taking pictures of boats in the Port. Then he hand made four boats to scale.

Carter has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and his wife has put the boats in the care of the port that Carter loved so much.

"His wife called me maybe about a month and a half ago and she said we would like to give the boats to the Port of Clarkston or to somebody who would put them on display," said Clarkston Port Commissioner Rick Davis.

Replicas of a Tidewater barge, the Queen of the West and the Empress of the North, all frequent visitors to the port, are among the models.

Also on display is the Denmark, a remarkably detailed sailboat. It was the first boat Carter built.

Port Commissioner Rick Davis says the boats are worth about $12,000 and he's very excited to have them on display at the port office and share them with the Valley.

"The public is welcome to come and look at them anytime and I feel very honored that we are the ones selected to have them."
