LEWISTON - In an effort to increase recycling in the city of Lewiston, city officials may consider raising fees for garbage pickup.

This, a proposal from the Solid Waste Advisory Commission at a meeting Wednesday. The proposal would include raising the cost of picking up a large "cart" by as much as 20 percent, encouraging residents to recycle more and be able to use a smaller cart that would cost less.

Administrative Services Director Dan Marsh told Action News it's just a recommendation at this point. And while the intent is "well-placed," Marsh said one concern is for large families, and what kind of burden the change could put on them. Marsh said the city council, and management staff have yet to look over the proposal.
